At the SORESTER Plant, a variety of surge arresters (SORESTERs) are manufactured
for use in 1kV to 500kV power systems. These SORESTERs employ block of zinc oxide
(Zn0 block), and such usage was begun in 1975 as the first attempt in the world.
Thanks to superb electrical characteristics of the Zn0 block, performance of all
kinds of surge arresters has been improved. Since this type of surge arrester
does not call for any series gap, the overall size and weight can be extremely
reduced to permit accommodation in electrical equipment. For this reason, the
SORESTER has been actively used in many fields of electric power systems as overvoltage
protective devices.
Manufacturing of Zn0 block and assembly work for SORESTERs are possible through
advanced automation and mechanization of plant facilities sustained by rigorous
process inspections. After passing through these facilities, highly reliable products
are available. These products have been delivered not to domestic customers but
also to more than 70 foreign countries.
