Which Mode Should I Use?

The VT230 has 5 modes:

  1. V/F For Constant Torque

This is used for most applications, where the high dynamic response or speed accuracy is not required.

  2. V/F For Variable Torque

This mode is specifically for centrifugal fans & pumps, where the power required is proportional to the speed cubed. This means that the motor can be started without excessive overload occurring.

This mode allow the drive to be re-rated to the nest size up
    e.g. A 4kw Drive will run a 5.5kW motor.

  3. Open Loop Vector

For more dynamic applications or where torque control( or limit ) is required.
Provides Vector control without encoder feedback.

The motor must be auto tuned for this mode to perform

  4. Closed Loop Vector

To increase speed accuracy & permit torque at zero speed, this mode Provides Vector control with encoder feedback (an optional PCB is required to connect the encoder).

The motor must be auto tuned for this mode to perform

  5. Permanent Magnet Motor Control

This mode is specifically for the operation of permanent magnet motors, encoder feedback is required (an optional PCB is required to connect the encoder).

To select the correct mode set C30-0 to the appropriated number.
